Dear Health Conscious Reader, "What Is Stem Cell Therapy?"

By Al Sears MD

Dear Health Conscious Reader:

We've known for years that platelets are the part of your blood that's responsible for clotting. But we're only beginning to learn about their powerful rejuvenating power and their potential to heal.
Platelets are your body's "first responders." They initiate a cascade of healing that's 10 times more powerful than any drug available today.
In fact, it'll be centuries before Big Pharma will be able to come up with a drug that can come close to doing what platelets can do.
Platelets work in two ways. First, they contain hundreds of growth factors. These proteins are critical for wound healing. And they regenerate injured or aging tissues and organs.1
Platelets also attract stem cells to damaged or aging tissue. Once they get there, the stem cells multiply rapidly. Then they morph into whatever cells we need to repair damage.
Today, we know that a therapy called platelet-rich plasma — or PRP — has the potential to reverse just about every disease of aging. That includes cancer, heart disease, diabetes, blindness, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
I'll tell you more about the procedure in a minute. But first I want to show you just how powerful it is at rejuvenating tissue…
Earlier this year, a group of doctors in Greece used PRP to restore fertility in menopausal women. They injected platelets right into the women's ovaries.
Afterward, the ovaries were able to release fertile eggs again.2
You see, the growth factors and stem cells from the platelets regenerated the ovaries.
But PRP doesn't just restore fertility. It can reverse menopause symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats. It can undo hormonal changes that make the heart, skin and bones more vulnerable to aging and disease.
PRP is also a life-saver for many people suffering from debilitating spine, neck and joint pain. Studies show it's effective for arthritis… inflamed tendons… torn muscles… injured ligaments… knee osteoarthritis... and damaged joint cartilage.
PRP is a simple procedure. I use it in my own practice at the Sears Institute for Anti-Aging Medicine. I draw a small amount of your blood and run it through a centrifuge. The machine separates out red blood cells. It leaves behind plasma with a very high concentration of platelets. The plasma is then re-injected into the body where you need it.
I use PRP to help my patients:
  • relieve back and joint pain and restore joint function;
  • boost their immune system;
  • heal from surgery;
  • and more.
One patient, W.B., recently had PRP. A lifetime of playing tennis and soccer had taken a toll on his knees. He had arthroscopic surgeries in 1990 and again in 1995. But he still had limited range of motion.
"I felt like I needed to be lubricated," W.B. told me. "I was creaking." He decided to try PRP.
After the procedure, he said he felt like a "well-oiled machine. I was able to walk more in one day than I'd been able to walk in a week."
It's been a few weeks since W.B.'s procedure. At his last follow-up appointment, he says he's been out working in his yard and around his house nearly every day. He's also been mowing his lawn, clearing his garage, and trimming the trees around his home with a huge pole saw.
Things he couldn't do before undergoing PRP therapy.
I also use PRP as a cosmetic treatment. It's a powerhouse for reviving old, tired skin. That's because injecting PRP in the face and neck stimulates the growth of new collagen.3
It also reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and lifts sagging around the mouth, cheeks and eyes. PRP can also brighten your skin tone and firm up your skin for a more youthful look.
PRP treatments are fast and relatively painless. The whole process takes only about 15 minutes. You don't lose any time from work or your daily routine. You may get a little mild swelling, redness, or bruising but it fades within one to three days.
It takes about three to four weeks after a PRP session to see the full effects. You'll also continue to improve with time.

A 71-year-old woman who could only move her left thumb after suffering a devastating stroke is now walking again after undergoing a stem cell procedure.
The woman was part of a stem cell study done on stroke victims at Stanford University — and she wasn’t the only one whose life was completely changed by the treatment…
Two other patients also got up out of their wheelchairs and started walking again.
STEM CELLS FOR STROKE RECOVERY
In total, 18 stroke survivors who thought they’d be paralyzed for the rest of their lives experienced what Stanford researchers are calling “remarkable” recoveries. Most have regained almost FULL mobility.1
The researchers admit they were “stunned” by the results.
That’s because they fly in the face of everything mainstream medicine will tell you about recovering from a stroke.
You see, most doctors believe it’s pointless to continue therapy if a patient hasn’t seen any improvement six months after their stroke.
But here’s the thing…
All of the patients in the study had passed the critical six-month mark. Some had a stroke as many as THREE YEARS before.
Stem Cell use
This is one of the most amazing examples of the healing power of stem cells that I’ve heard of. But I’m not surprised.
And it’s such a simple procedure…
The Stanford researchers harvested stem cells from adult donors and injected them into damaged areas of the stroke victims’ skulls. The patients returned home the same day with only a slight headache.
And most started to show improvement within the first 24 hours.
WHAT IS STEM CELL THERAPY?
Stem cell procedures were once controversial. But I want to be clear: the stem cells used today are NOT the “embryonic” stem cells used years ago in research. We’ve since learned that one of the best places to get stem cells is actually from your own fat tissue.
You’re born with a reserve of “replacement cells” — or stem cells. They’re your body’s master cells. You can use them to replace any cell that’s damaged or dying.
When they’re deployed, stem cells heal and regenerate the tissue or organ they’re assigned to, and can help you make stunning recoveries.
The “secret weapons” inside stem cells that makes this possible are tiny proteins called growth factors.
WHAT ARE HUMAN GROWTH FACTORS?
Human growth factors are cellular messengers that send signals to activate the production of new cells, or to instruct a cell to create new cells with different functions. This special signaling mechanism is what triggers the healing power of these cells.

HOW TO INCREASE STEM CELLS IN YOUR BODY
In the meantime, here are five ways you can increase your body’s production of stem cells right now…
  1. Practice Tai Chi. This ancient Chinese martial art has been practiced for over 3,000 years. But only recently have scientists realized that this self-paced system of slow, gentle stretching can increase your number of stem cells in your body as you get older.2 These stem cells, called CD34 cells, are produced deep in your bone marrow.
  2. Eat blue-green algae. Blue-green algae is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. There are two kinds, spirulina and a variety known as AFA. Researchers at the University of South Florida found that the AFA variety can greatly increase the production of human stem cells in bone marrow.3 AFA is available as a supplement or a
powder and can be found online. I recommend 800 mg a day.
  3. Eat more seaweed. SeaweedSeaweed contains an important molecule called fucoidan. This compound increases the release of adult stem cells into the bloodstream.4 It also helps mobilize those stem cells so they can travel to the parts of the body that need repair and renewal. Fucoidan is found primarily in brown seaweed and makes a
delicious salad. You can also purchase supplements online. I suggest 400 mg a day.
  4. Add carnosine. I recommend getting 1,000 mg of carnosine every day. Grass-fed, pasture-raised meat is the best way to get carnosine from food. A typical 7-ounce serving of beef has about 250 mg of carnosine. If you can’t get enough by eating red meat, I recommend you supplement with natural L-carnosine. Take 500 mg twice a day.
  5. Fast for two days every six months.  Periodic calorie restriction — no food for two days every six months — kills older, damaged stem cells and generates new ones.5 This is a technique I’ve used for years to jumpstart the healing and rejuvenation process.
